Scans and tests
Dr Corden arranges and interprets a wide range of cardiac investigations to clarify symptoms, confirm diagnoses, and guide treatment decisions.
He will recommend only the tests that are appropriate for your situation and explain what each investigation is looking for. If tests are advised, the practical arrangements are discussed clearly in advance.
If you are self-funding your care, full pricing information will be provided before booking. If you are using private medical insurance, you will have time to obtain authorisation ahead of your scan or test, with support from Dr Corden’s team if needed.
Tests available include:
ECG (Electrocardiogram)
A simple 5–10 minute test that records your heart’s electrical activity. It helps diagnose heart rhythm problems, previous heart attacks and other electrical abnormalities.
Transthoracic Echocardiogram (Echo)
An ultrasound scan showing how well your heart pumps. It assesses heart muscle function, valve problems and structural abnormalities.
Exercise (Stress) Echocardiogram
An ultrasound performed while your heart is working harder. It helps identify coronary artery disease and assesses how your heart responds to exercise.
Exercise Treadmill Test
A monitored walking test used to assess heart rhythm, blood pressure and symptoms during exercise. Helpful for investigating chest pain and palpitations.
24-hour Holter Monitor
A continuous ECG recording worn for 24 hours to detect intermittent heart rhythm problems such as atrial fibrillation, fast heart rhythms or pauses.
7-day / 14-day Ambulatory Rhythm Monitor (Ziopatch)
A discreet, waterproof heart rhythm monitor worn for up to two weeks. Excellent for capturing infrequent symptoms such as palpitations or blackouts.
Implantable Loop Recorder (ILR)
A tiny device inserted under the skin that continuously monitors heart rhythms for months or years. Ideal for diagnosing unexplained blackouts or suspected arrhythmias.
24-hour Blood Pressure Monitor
A cuff worn for 24 hours that measures your blood pressure throughout the day and night, providing a more accurate assessment than a single clinic reading. This is the gold-standard test for high blood pressure.
CT Coronary Angiogram
A high-resolution CT scan that visualises the coronary arteries. It detects narrowing or blockages and is a key test for chest pain and coronary artery disease.
Cardiac MRI (Cobalt Health, Cheltenham)
A detailed, non-invasive scan providing the most accurate assessment of heart muscle structure, pumping function and tissue characteristics (such as heart muscle inflammation or scarring). Essential for diagnosing cardiomyopathy, myocarditis, prior heart attack and many complex conditions.
Stress Perfusion Cardiac MRI (Cobalt Health, Cheltenham)
A detailed scan that shows how well blood reaches your heart muscle under stress. Using medication that dilates the heart arteries and increases heart rate, it can detect blockages in coronary arteries that are causing reduced blood flow to the heart. It is a highly accurate, non-invasive test for investigating chest pain and assessing coronary artery health.
